Paolo Marzolini MCIArb explores the protection granted by the New York Convention (NY Convention) and the Singapore Convention on Mediation (Singapore Convention) to complex situations where an interplay exists between mediation and arbitration.

In 2023, Ciarb launched Let’s Discuss… a series of virtual events hosted by members to discuss topics and issues that matter most in private dispute resolution worldwide. The series provided members with an opportunity to debate topical issues around adjudication, mediation, technology, diversity and inclusion. It enabled members to share insights, learn from peers and make new connections.

In a significant moment for mediation, the highly anticipated Churchill judgment overturns the decision in Halsey, confirming it is not a breach of human rights to integrate mediation into the court process and, where appropriate, to order parties to mediate. CMC, Ciarb and CEDR joined forces to intervene in the case, arguing strongly for this outcome.

In a lively session focusing on the establishment of an advisory centre in international law and cross-cutting issues, Ciarb intervened twice on behalf of members.
