If you are serious about a career in international commercial arbitration and want to learn from tutors who teach from experience, network with delegates from around the world, and progress towards Fellowship status. Then Ciarb’s Virtual Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration is for you!

The Diploma is led by Course Director Professor Dr Mohamed Abdel Wahab, C.Arb, FCIArb and delivered by a host of highly experienced and distinguished tutors.

You will gain a truly international learning experience. In 2023, our delegates hailed from Austria, Bahrain, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jordan, Portugal, South Africa, Tanzania, UAE, USA, and Zambia.

Upon successfully completing the course and all corresponding assessments, you can apply to become a Ciarb Fellow. Fellowship (FCIArb) is internationally recognised and respected. When you become a Ciarb Fellow, you join a distinguished group of experienced alternative dispute resolution (ADR) practitioners. Fellowship unlocks eligibility to join Ciarb’s and other global dispute panels.

How is the course delivered?

The Diploma is delivered virtually. It runs for 3 days a week (Friday to Sunday) from 09h00 to 13h00 (UK time) across 4 weeks. Some days may be longer to allow for supervision to take place. You will learn in interactive, large and small group sessions. Each week, you will have the opportunity to speak to the Course Director.

How will I be assessed?

One month before the Diploma, candidates choose and submit a general dissertation proposal from a list of subjects. They are then assigned a dissertation supervisor and submit a final 4000-word dissertation online approximately three months later. There are also two 1000-word assignments that need to be completed.

Candidates must take and pass an online exemption test on the common law and civil law of contract and tort before commencing the Part 3 assessment.

Candidates must take and pass an award writing assessment, which they complete at home and submit via Ciarb’s online platform.

What are the entry requirements?

To be considered for the Diploma you must meet both of the following minimum entry requirements:

  • You must have a minimum of five years’ professional workplace experience as, for example, a lawyer, surveyor, accountant, insurer, shipbroker or similar.
