Job Title: Director: Werksmans Attorneys

Areas of Expertise: Arbitration,Mediation

I practice as a director in the Dispute Resolution Department of Werksmans Attorneys. My practice consists predominantly of arbitration, dealing with high-quantum commercial disputes across a range of sectors. With a particular interest in international arbitration, I have been repeatedly published on the topic, and contribute the South Africa chapter to the World Arbitration Reporter, an international comparative publication. I serve on the Management Committees of the South African branch of CIArb as well as the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA). I have addressed arbitration workshops and seminars both internationally and domestically, and have been interviewed on television and radio on various topics of interest to the business community.

I obtained my BA (Hons) in Latin at the University of Cape Town and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 1996. My course work included transcribing, translating, editing and commenting on the previously untranscribed Casus Codicis of the 12-century legal scholar Wilhelmus de Cabriano.

After completing my LLB, I qualified as an attorney in 2001. In 2003 I acted as the legislative draftsman, speechwriter and legal researcher to the Leader of the Opposition in the South African parliament. Upon returning to the legal profession, I practised in Cape Town until 2006, when I relocated to Johannesburg to join Werksmans.
