Dr. Sherif Elatafy is Associate Professor of law at AIN SHAMS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW, Partner at Khodeir and Partners law firm, attorney at the New York State Bar and arbitrator.
Dr. Elatafy has a decent academic experience as he delivers several lectures in different specialties of law at national and foreign universities. Moreover, he specializes in commercial and investment arbitration as he has completed his Ph.D. studies on “The Liability of Arbitral Institutions” at UNIVERSITÉ LYON III JEAN-MOULIN. Prior to this, Dr. Elatafy pursued his Master of Laws (LL.M.) at DUKE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW where he wrote his master’s thesis on the “The Sports Disputes Settlement”. During his time at DUKE, Dr. Elatafy was the research assistant where he conducted several researches on the application of non-state law in Egyptian Courts. In 2013, he completed the “Arbitration Academy Summer Course” at the ARBITRATION ACADEMY and published a briefed article on “Immunity of International Arbitral Institutions under Egyptian Law” on LCIA’S website. He, subsequently, published multiple scholarly writings on common recurrent issues that arise in commercial arbitration.

He prosecuted and provided legal advice in several arbitration cases held under the auspices of different arbitral institutions such as CRCICA, ICC, JCAA, PCA, ICSID, Arab Investment Court and the actions brought before US Federal courts. More specifically, I provided legal opinion in several arbitral commercial disputes, including, a dispute between a GCC company and an Asian automotive company in relation to a distribution agreement; a dispute between a GCC state and a European company in relation to a construction of a waste plant agreement; a dispute between a GCC state owned Company and a European company in relation to a construction agreement; a dispute between two telecommunication operators in North Africa in relation to interconnection agreements; a dispute between minor shareholder and both majority shareholder and board directors of a limited liability company incorporated in a GCC state; and a dispute between Egyptian contractor and one of the shareholders of its subsidiary incorporated in a GCC state. Likewise, provided legal opinion and represented clients in investment arbitration including disputes between a GCC investor and a GCC state in the aviation sector; a European company and a North African state in the construction sector; a North African investor and a North American state in the telecommunication sector; a North American investor and North African State in the industrial and export sectors; a GCC investor and North African State in the construction and tourism sectors.
