Samuel Kuo 郭耀晨 is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), currently pursuing the Fellowship sponsored by the Michael Mustill Scholarship from Gray's Inn and the International Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC) in London, United Kingdom. He holds, inter alia, an LLB from the University of York. Samuel possesses a wide range of legal research, writing and editing experience; he sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Legal, Ethical and Regulatory Issues (JLERI). Samuel is an oral and written advocacy coach; he coached a team at the 2024 31st Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, where he also sat as an arbitrator. Samuel also gives private tutorials to law students. Samuel is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (commonly known as the Royal Society of the Arts) (FRSA). He is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin, having lived across four continents.

Samuel has participated in matters related to international arbitration and insolvency in the London Rolls Building (the Chancery Division of the High Court of England and Wales). He is also well versed in legal cultural differences (e g, common law vs civil law). Whilst Samuel has a common law background, he has knowledge in civilian obligations law. Samuel is skilled at explaining common law principles and British legal distinction (e g, barristers' chambers vs solicitors' firms) to civilian practitioners and other common law practitioners from fused jurisdictions, such as the USA. He is a current candidate for the New York Bar Exam taking place in July 2024; thereafter, in August 2024, he will commence the LLM programme, sponsored by the Georgia Law International Scholar Award and the Dean's Merit Scholarship, at the Dean Rusk International Law Center, University of Georgia School of Law, USA.

Samuel also has extensive experience in, inter alia, legal business development including high stake bids, pitches and proposals support; Sino–Anglo legal markets entry; and international arbitration and cross border disputes client relations.

Having lived in the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Taiwan makes Samuel a well rounded and versatile communicator. His approach to cross border and cross culture dispute resolution is unique — he acts as a holistic and diplomatic bridge to bring people together, harmonise tensions and persuade compromises.
