New Educational Resources from YMG
Ciarb Young Members Group (YMG) launches two new educational series for its members entitled “YMG Mentorship Programme” and “YMG Regional Series: Spotlight On”.
The Mentorship Programme series will cover career development topics relevant to the Ciarb YMG membership, and the Regional Series will cover arbitration-related developments around the world, recent or otherwise. The two series will comprise a selection of short videos, five to 10 minutes long, presented by both established and up-and-coming arbitration practitioners.
Eugene Thong FCIArb, Arbitrator and Tribunal Secretary from The Arbitration Chambers (Singapore), presents the first episode in the Mentorship Programme on “The Role of Tribunal Secretary”.
The first episode in the Regional Series turns the "Spotlight on Ecuador" and the arbitration-related regulations passed in 2021, which affect cases seated in Ecuador. The episode features Ecuadorian-qualified lawyer Andres Larrea, Deputy Counsel at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).
Both episodes were recorded on the premises of Maxwell Chambers, Singapore’s integrated dispute resolution complex with best-in-class hearing facilities and home to arbitral institutions, service providers and legal practitioners.
Baptiste Rigaudeau MCIArb, Ciarb YMG’s Chair, says, “The development and launch of these new online career development resources is just one example of YMG’s commitment to ensure all our members have equal access to our education and training initiatives. We are always seeking and implementing feedback from our members, and the YMG Global Steering Committee has worked hard to ensure that the topics we cover meet their needs and expectations.”
Cam Tu Vo Nguyen MCIArb, Ciarb YMG’s Vice-Chair, says, “With these new initiatives, we are delivering on our pledge (i) to give equal access to educational resources to as many young practitioners as possible, especially in underrepresented jurisdictions; (ii) to further develop and strengthen Ciarb’s global network by inviting members to be presenters in the videos; and (iii) to shed light on arbitration practice and arbitration law, including in emerging jurisdictions, around the world. We also strive to establish strategic partnerships with local players to support Ciarb’s initiatives, as we did with Maxwell Chambers in Singapore to record the first episode of each series. Our initiatives are designed to be 'living series'. We thus encourage all arbitration practitioners to contact us should they wish to report on a topic they deem of interest to Ciarb’s global network and the wider global legal community. Topics may include a recent arbitration-related development in their jurisdiction or the arbitration practice or law of their jurisdiction.”
Ciarb’s Young Members Group (YMG) brings together professional members aged 40 years and under to develop their careers. Members can learn, develop and connect with the wider private dispute resolution community through YMG activities and opportunities. These range from events, including seminars and an annual conference, to training days delivered by distinguished practitioners. All Ciarb professional members aged under 40 years automatically become part of the Young Members Group. Ciarb YMG is overseen by a Global Steering Committee that volunteers its time to plan, organise, and promote activities targeted at young professionals across the globe. Baptiste Rigaudeau MCIArb, is Ciarb YMG’s Chair for 2023. Cam Tu Vo Nguyen MCIArb, is Vice-Chair for 2023.
