Meet Ciarb’s newly elected and re-elected Trustees

Congratulations to the elected Trustees for the Americas, Australasia, Europe, and Ireland.

Ciarb’s membership has elected the following persons to the Board in line with its Royal Charter and Bye-laws:

The Americas (Re-elected)

Amb. (r) David Huebner C.Arb FCIArb has more than 30 years’ experience as an arbitrator and advocate in international, investment, investor-state, and complex commercial arbitrations. He is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, and has been named to numerous distinguished practitioner lists, including Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC)’s “Tech List” of the world’s most accomplished technology neutrals.

He has particular expertise in technology, life sciences, investment, and energy disputes but has handled matters across a wide range of industry sectors, legal issues, and geographic regions. Currently resident in California, he hears cases internationally and has been based for extended periods in Tokyo, Shanghai, and New York.

His diverse professional background informs his approach to decision-making, process, and efficiency. In addition to practicing law as a partner in firms in the AmLaw 100, he has served as US Ambassador to New Zealand, founding managing partner of a law office in China, chair and CEO of an international law firm, chair of the California Law Revision Commission, and IP adviser to a member of Japan’s National Diet.

 

Australasia (Re-elected)

Caroline Kenny KC C.Arb FCIArb is an international arbitrator specialising in commercial and investment disputes. She has more than 35 years’ experience acting in complex international matters, including over 15 years as King’s Counsel. She is admitted to practice in Australia, the United Kingdom and New York and maintains chambers in Melbourne and London. Caroline is a former president of Ciarb’s Australian Branch and is currently the only female Chartered Arbitrator in Australia.

She is highly respected in the international arbitration community for her commitment to the promotion of arbitration as the preferred means for resolving international disputes and for her diligent, responsive and practical approach as an arbitrator.

 

Europe (Newly elected)

Anna Stylianou C.Arb FCIArb is an independent international dispute resolver specialising in international construction arbitration, with more than twenty years of experience. She has been involved in several arbitrations, mediations, adjudications, and expert witness determinations in a wide range of disputes such as construction, commerce, finance, entertainment, real estate, marine and oil and gas disputes. Anna is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS), a Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) Accredited Mediator, has a diploma in Negotiation and an LLM (merit) degree in International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London.

She is a member of local and international arbitration and mediation committees and panels such as the Ciarb, Asian Institute of International Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR), CEDR, Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), and Arbitration and Mediation Centre of Armenia (AMCA). Additionally, she served as a Chair of the Ciarb Cyprus Branch and served as a member of the Education and Membership Committee of Ciarb. She is a tutor and examiner of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a tutor, course director and examiner for Arbitration, International Arbitration and Mediation for Ciarb.

Anna was involved in writing the Rules of Arbitration for the Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) and the Rules and Scheme on Arbitration for the Ciarb Cyprus Branch, the rules on mediation for Ciarb, and the module 1 workbook for International Arbitration for AIADR.

 

Ireland (Newly elected)

Peter O’Malley RIBA MRIAI FCIArb originally qualified as an architect, and has worked across the world in Europe, the Middle East, West Africa, the Caribbean, the Far East, and Australia. Peter is a qualified arbitrator, adjudicator, accredited mediator, and conciliator. As part of the Ciarb Ireland Branch, he has held several positions on the committee including Vice-Chair and Chair. He is included on the Presidents panel of adjudicators and is an accredited Ciarb Examiner in Construction Adjudication under both the UK and Irish Acts.

In Ireland, Peter is a member of the Construction Contracts Adjudication Panel established by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment under of the Construction Contracts Act 2013 (CCA 2013). Peter is also on the Ireland National Committee of the Nominations Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He has spoken at many industry conferences on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is also a visiting lecturer on adjudication, under the UK legislation, at Robert Gordon University in Scotland. In addition to having peer reviewed academic papers published, he has written numerous articles on dispute resolution, construction law and related subjects in Ireland, the UK and internationally. Peter has also authored a book titled ‘The Irish Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – The early years 1981–1993.’

 

 

 

The four elected Trustees term will commence on 1 January 2025 for a four-year term. The Board of Trustees comprises fifteen Elected and Appointed Trustees, and is supported by numerous Committees.
