In memoriam: Dr Nabil Elaraby
On behalf of everyone at Ciarb, we extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr Nabil Elaraby who sadly passed away on 26 August 2024.
Ciarb was honoured to appoint Dr Elaraby as its patron in 2017. He was Chair of the Board of Trustees for, and former director of, the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), which is the seat of the Ciarb Egypt Branch.
Dr Elaraby held many influential roles during his illustrious career. His former roles included Secretary General of the Arab League; Minister of Foreign Affairs in Egypt; Judge at the International Court of Justice; Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN); President of the UN Security Council; Member of the International Law Commission of the UN; Egypt’s Legal Advisor to the Camp David Middle East peace conference in 1978; Head of the Egyptian delegation to the Taba dispute negotiations and, in 1988, Agency of the Government of Egypt in the Taba arbitration.
