In memoriam: Calvin A. Hamilton C.Arb FCIArb
On behalf of everyone at Ciarb, we send our sincerest condolences to everyone who knew Calvin A. Hamilton, who has sadly passed away.
Calvin A. Hamilton C.Arb FCIArb had over 35 years’ experience as an arbitrator for investment and commercial disputes across the globe. His experience as arbitrator included cases under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), Madrid Court of Arbitration, Zurich Chamber of Commerce and UNCITRAL Rules in a variety of seats.
He was a key and active member of the Ciarb Caribbean Branch, a former Chair of Ciarb Barbados Chapter, and a highly respected member of Ciarb faculty.
Dr Anthony Gafoor FCIArb, Chair of Ciarb Caribbean Branch commented: “Calvin’s outstanding contribution to the regional growth of arbitration and dispute resolution in general were internationally recognised. His efforts as an arbitrator registered with various domestic, regional, and international dispute resolution bodies were coupled with his sterling contribution in an administrative capacity to the growth and development of the Barbados Chapter which he formerly chaired, but also through being a member of the Branch Committee.”
“More recently, he was one of the co-authors of the ITA Report on the future of arbitration in the region. His various contributions and erudite advice were always focused on the practicalities of arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism. His pioneering efforts coupled with a friendly and sincere approach were well regarded by all who encountered him, and his presence will undoubtedly be missed.”
We will miss him.
