John is the Managing Proprietor at John Wilson Partners and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Sri Lanka. He was admitted to the Sri Lankan Bar, Colombo, Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public, Commissioner of Oaths and Registered Company Secretary in 1999, he obtained his LL.B (Hons.) degree in 1995, his Maîtrise en droit privé mention droit français et anglais and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1996. John has over 20 years’ experiences in various cross-border disputes, involving disputes arising from international sale of goods and property, joint ventures, M&As, leases, intellectual property, construction projects, procurement disputes, contractual disputes, labour law disputes including employment contracts etc. As a lawyer specializing in dispute resolution, John has represented clients in many litigation and arbitration cases, including some landmark cases between Sri Lankan and foreign companies. He has represented a large international corporation to deal with a contract dispute with a Sri Lankan company as well as many other multiple construction related disputes, not just locally but internationally. He lead a case against a major international company involved in a product licensing breach, whilst he counselled various international clients on Trade Mark and Patent infringements. He has extensive experience in property disputes (locally and internationally), the hotel industry, insurance and trade and investment. He also managed various employment related arbitration matters for Sri Lankan clients.
