Hesham is an academic and a professional lawyer in the fields of private international law, arbitration and competiton law.
Hesham is currently an Assistant Lecturer of private international law at Cairo University.
Hesham is also an Associate in the arbitration and competition teams at Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy. Hesham handles international and domestic arbitration cases under various rules, including ICC, LCIA, ICSID, CRCICA, DIFC-LCIA, ADCCAC, and UNCITRAL, in relation to disputes involving oil and gas agreements, share purchase agreements, telecommunications, construction, pharmaceuticals, maritime, and international investment in Egyptian and Gulf (Emirati, Qatari and Saudi) jurisdictions. Furthermore, Hesham works on enforcement proceedings of arbitral awards before Egyptian courts.
Hesham also handles a multiplicity of competition law matters and disputes within the competiton practice at Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy, and deals with the legal and economic analysis of cartels, vertical agreements, abuse of dominance. Hesham also participates in providing strategies for mergers and acquisitions, training on dawn raids, and preparing fair competition compliance reports for multinational companies.
Hesham obtained his LL.B. from Cairo University (English Department) with distinction - first class honors, ranking first in his class. He also obtained his LL.M. in international law from Cairo University. He further obtained his Magister Juris degree from the University of Oxford.
