Sylva Ogwemoh is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and the Founder and Senior Partner of Kevin Martin Ogwemoh Legal (KMO Legal), a commercial law firm headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. With over 35 years of experience in Commercial Litigation, Arbitration and Corporate Law, his practice spans diverse areas such as Banking and Finance, Company and Commercial Law, Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Law, International Business Transactions, Capital Markets, Shipping and Admiralty Law, Oil and Gas Law and Real Estate. His expertise extends to legal compliance and private equity, where he has advised on structured finance, corporate governance, portfolio decision-making, corporate strategy, board facilitation, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation in commercial litigation and arbitration, handling high-profile cases in various Nigerian courts and arbitration proceedings running into millions of United States Dollars.
Sylva Ogwemoh SAN attended St. Peter’s Grammar School, Agenebode, Edo State, where he obtained his West African Examination Council Certificate with Grade One (1) Distinction. He proceeded to St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, Delta State, for his Lower Sixth Form before gaining admission to study Law at the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma, Edo State (now Ambrose Alli University), where he obtained his LL. B Degree in 1987. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and was elevated to the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2014. Additionally, he holds a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) with a specialization in Corporate Management and Finance Law from Lagos State University. He is also an alumnus of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, United Kingdom, with certification in management and leadership.
Sylva Ogwemoh SAN is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom, and has a Post Graduate Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the same institute. He is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA African Users’ Council) and the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants and has served as Non-Executive Director of African Alliance Insurance Plc where he rose to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors.
His contributions to the legal profession have earned him several recognitions. In 2018, he received the African Prize for Leadership Excellence under the Legal Personality Prize Category. Earlier in 2013, he received the LEGALSFINEST Client Choice Award in Shipping and Maritime Law.
