Personal bio

I am a lawyer admitted to practice law in Chile. I studied law at the School of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and received a Master's degree from the School of Law of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Since I started practicing law, I have worked exclusively in the field of dispute resolution at the firm Gutiérrez, Waugh, Jimeno & Asenjo ("GWJA"), which has been recognized -both nationally and internationally- as one of the best Chilean law firms in the area of litigation and arbitration. I joined GWJA as an associate in 2008 and have been a partner of the firm since 2020. Throughout this period, both as an associate and in my current position as partner, I have represented important Chilean and foreign companies in highly complex civil and commercial disputes. Since 2020 to date, together with other members of GWJA, I have been recognized by different international rankings such as Best Lawyers, Leaders League, Benchmark Litigation and Legal 500 in the field of litigation and arbitration. A significant part of the disputes in which I have been involved have been handled in arbitration proceedings, both national and international, both institutional and ad-hoc. In the case of domestic arbitrations, most of them have been administered by the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce ("CAM Santiago"). While in the case of international arbitrations, they have been handled according to the procedural rules of bodies such as the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada ("CAM-CCBC") or the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce International ("ICC"). In many of these arbitrations in which I have been involved, the particularities of the dispute have required taking into consideration technical aspects, specific to the industry in which the dispute arises, as well as cross-border aspects of the dispute, which has required working together with partners and associates from firms in various jurisdictions, as has been the case of Covington & Burling LLP (New York); Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (New York); Paul Hastings, LLP (New York); Ferro, Castro Neves, Daltro & Gomide Advogados (Brazil); Marval O'Farrell Mairal (Argentina), among others. I have combined all this arbitration practice with litigation practice before ordinary courts, in equally complex and challenging disputes.
