Mian Sheraz Javaid is a "non-traditional" construction lawyer and barrister. He began his professional career as a civil engineer, and as he later entered the field of law, he incorporated his invaluable experience as a civil engineer into his legal specialty. With over 2 decades of experience, Sheraz has emerged as a skilled and dynamic leader in energy and construction law. He possesses a demonstrated capacity in all aspects of construction litigation and contracts drafting/negotiation, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), Mediation, Adjudication, Neutral Evaluation, Expert Determination, Arbitration, licensing, and other construction issues.
Sheraz has extensive commercial law experience, both transactional and contentious, within the construction and energy sectors. He has analyzed, drafted, negotiated, and advised on a broad range of commercial contracts, including licensing, and regulatory issues, and has conducted all forms of ADR proceedings. He has particularly excelled within the area of dispute avoidance by advising stakeholders in the construction and energy sectors. His approach encompasses ground root involvement by training the managers on standard forms of contract and ADR and advising from the beginning to the end of a project’s lifecycle.
Sheraz works in the Business & Property Group at No 5 Barristers Chambers, a top-tier set of Chambers headquartered in Birmingham with offices in London, Bristol, and Leicester, United Kingdom. Being dual qualified as an engineer and lawyer, makes him uniquely placed to advise on complex energy and construction law matters ranging from contract drafting, contract review, and standard forms of contract including FIDIC, JCT, and NEC with the added surety of how those matters are argued and interpreted in courts.
Sheraz also enjoys the honor of serving on the Approved Faculty List (AFL) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and provides international arbitration, adjudication and Mediation training to engineers, barristers, solicitors, and public sector organization employees across the globe. Additionally, he is also an academic and regularly lectures at various institutes globally.
In addition to his law practice, Sheraz has also taken the initiative of resuscitating the ADR sector in Pakistan, by bringing the illustrious Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to Pakistan. He is the founding Chair of the CIArb Pakistan Branch.
