Personal bio
Carlos Carvalho is a qualified lawyer in three jurisdictions, including Brazil, and England and Wales, where he has practised in the International Arbitration field since 2015. He is the Lead Teaching Fellow at the School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), where he teaches tutorials and supervises dissertations at the LLM programme. Carlos also leads the QMUL Financial Inclusion Project with the Banking and Finance Department. Carlos has acted for significant companies as the leading counsel in hundreds of hearings and oral arguments before the Court of Appeal in Brazil and worked as an arbitration consultant, assistant counsel and tribunal secretary in several international arbitrations under ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and ADCCAC rules. Besides managing various businesses and complex projects, he worked in law firms, companies and the public sector. More recently, Carlos set up and coordinated the International Advisory and Dispute Resolution Unit at the leading barristers’ chambers, 3 Verulam Buildings. Carlos holds a Postgraduate Diploma from Fundação Getulio Vargas and an LLM from QMUL in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution.
