Marc R. Labgold is an international arbitrator with more than 35 years of experience resolving complex commercial, technology, intellectual property, and construction-related disputes. He is particularly sought after in matters involving complex technical subject matter and substantial financial exposure.
Dr. Labgold serves as arbitrator in domestic and international disputes arising under a broad range of commercial agreements, including EPC contracts, OEM arrangements, technology and intellectual property licenses, joint development agreements, research collaborations, distribution agreements, and other complex commercial transactions. His experience spans proceedings conducted under institutional and ad hoc rules, involving parties from both common law and civil law jurisdictions.
Dr. Labgold is deeply involved in international arbitration as arbitrator, counsel, and advisor in proceedings seated in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, London, and New York. These matters have involved claims and counterclaims exceeding hundreds of millions of dollars and have required the management of extensive factual records, expert testimony, and technically complex issues.
Dr. Labgold is particularly well-suited to disputes involving advanced technologies and scientific subject matter. His experience encompasses chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, medical devices, in vitro diagnostics, advanced materials, semiconductors, gaming, and other technology-driven industries. His advanced scientific education, training, and experience enable him to comprehend technical evidence and issues efficiently and effectively.
Prior to focusing on arbitral appointments, Dr. Labgold served as a trial attorney and lead counsel in complex high-stakes litigation and arbitration matters involving patents, trade secrets, intellectual property, and a wide range of technologies and legal issues. This experience provides him with a practical understanding of the challenges faced by parties, counsel, experts, and tribunals in complex legal proceedings.
Dr. Labgold holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Molecular Biology from the California Institute of Technology, a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, and a B.A. in Chemistry from New York University. He is a registered U.S. patent attorney and is widely recognized for his ability to bridge the disciplines of law, science, technology, and international commerce.
In addition to his arbitral practice, Dr. Labgold serves as an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University College of Law, where he teaches international arbitration and coaches the FIU’s Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team. He frequently lectures and publishes on international arbitration topics.
