In Hong Kong since 1988, Maria Xuereb is currently an independent commercial dispute mediator accredited with Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (“CEDR”). She is also a member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). She focuses on the resolution of commercial disputes and deadlocked negotiations across all sectors involving small claims to high value conflicts. Prior to becoming a mediator/arbitrator, Maria was a Senior Partner with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Hong Kong. She accumulated more than 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, managing audits of banks, securities and insurance companies, as well as providing regulatory, risk management and consulting advisory services. These included acting as expert witness in a credit lending case and a consultant in an options margin financing litigation. Maria is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and director of The Asia-Pacific Structured Finance Association which was formed to promote the development of structured finance throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
