In addition to my role as Professor of Intellectual Property at Melbourne Law School, I am an experienced arbitrator / determiner and mediator / conciliator who accepts appointments for the resolution of IP, IT, media, life sciences/pharma, franchise, sport, and related commercial disputes, both domestic and international. With a Bachelor degree in science, and a Bachelor, a Master and a Doctoral degree in law, I am admitted to legal practice in Australia, England and Wales. I have a sound knowledge of the legal systems and commercial laws of Australia, Canada, Singapore, the UK and the USA, having lived and worked in those countries at various times over the decades. Formally trained in international arbitration, I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. I am also formally trained in mediation, and hold accreditation under the Australian National Mediator Accreditation System. I have been appointed to resolve disputes under the rules of a range of institutions, including the ICC International Centre for ADR, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, and the Resolution Institute, as well as by ad hoc appointment.
