Personal bio

Having worked over 15 years as a solicitor and as a legal aid family solicitor before moving into private practice, she assisted many clients in relation to mediation and Islamic arbitration and especially those that were unable to access justice because they did not qualify for legal aid.

The member possess many other skills such as being a qualified civil/commercial/workplace mediator as well as undertaking training for a family mediator. She has also passed international arbitration exams with CIARB. and is a MCIARB. She is also the founder of a non-profit online organisation: Justice for Sisters in Islam which specifically assists Muslim women on a pro-bono basis and assists women with Islamic mediation and Islamic arbitration.

She is holds a doctorate in Law and is an Associate Research Fellow at the School of Law, Birkbeck College, University of London and a visiting research fellow at the Centre of Gender Studies, University of Cambridge. In addition, she is a Resolution member, she sits on the Resolution Cohabitation, Children, Domestic Abuse and International Law Committees. She has written legal articles and publications for Resolution on mediation, Islamic arbitration and family law. She has written chapters for practitioners on international family law, cohabitation, the Review (Resolution) and presented at workshops and produced podcasts for Resolution.

She is also a partner with Max Planck Institute, Germany and is working on a specialist CUREDI project to represent the UK on analysing legal judgments relating to legally non-binding marriages.
