Description of current status: Full time Arbitrator Qualifications: • Master Mariner (Class One) (1981) • Accredited Mediator –London Shipping Law Centre/The School of Psychotherapy and Counselling (SPC) Regents College (2004) • Masters by Research-Biological Science –Royal Holloway University of London (2016) • Supporting member of LMAA • Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Career to date: • 1969 to 1981: An initial career with the Ocean Group (Blue Funnel and Elder Dempster) followed by two years as Chief Officer with Sea Containers. (1981 to 1983) Seagoing experience on-board general cargo, bulk carrier, container and Ro Ro vessels. Shore based operational management experience with West African conference services. • 1983 to 1984: Assistant to the General Manager of a Japanese marine survey company. Experience in cargo damage investigations and ship condition surveys. • 1984 to 2014: Thomas Miller P&I. Responsible as Deputy to the Claims Director for the supervision of major cases in jurisdictions worldwide for UK Club shipowner and charterer members. Participated in mediations, LMAA arbitrations and court proceedings in England, China and the United States. Areas of experience include unsafe port disputes, collisions, sinkings, groundings and salvage, wreck removal, containership casualties, cargo loss, bulk cargo liquefaction, tanker cargo contaminations, general average and piracy. Additional experience in the management of major CLC oil pollution incidents in Korea and Japan.
