Personal bio
René Roper (nee Gayle) is a mission-driven Attorney-at-Law and Legal Consultant with over a decade’s experience gained in Jamaica and the U.K. in the areas of international law, arbitration and dispute settlement and corporate and commercial law. She is a member of the Jamaica Bar Association and sits on its Commercial Law, Law Reform and ADR Committees. René has served as a Group General Counsel in the financial services industry, as an Associate at Jamaica’s largest and leading law firm and is now the Lead Consultant at beyondLegal, where she has been able to contribute to law reform and critical areas of national development. As a Legal Consultant, she has been engaged by several inter-governmental organisations and multilateral donor agencies such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union and the British Council. René also currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in International Law at the Faculty of Law, University of West Indies (Mona). René holds a Masters in International & Comparative Dispute Resolution from the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary, University of London. She also holds a Certificate in Public International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law.
