Maxim is a senior arbitration lawyer qualified in England and Wales, New York, and Russia. Prior to founding Osadchiy Dispute Resolution LLP, a specialist arbitration firm based in London, he practised, for over ten years, in the international arbitration groups of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP (London) and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (Paris, London).
Maxim has substantial experience of both investor-state dispute settlement and commercial arbitration proceedings under the rules of all major arbitral institutions. He has been counsel in over twenty-five arbitration proceedings across a broad range of industry sectors, including oil & gas, mining, construction and pharmaceuticals, often involving parties from the CIS, Asia and the Middle East. Recommended for international arbitration by The Legal 500 UK (2022-2024), he is also recognized as a leading arbitration practitioner by WWL: Arbitration Future Leaders (2024-2025).
Apart from his work as counsel, Maxim has an active practice as arbitrator. He is included on the HKIAC List of Arbitrators and has acted as arbitrator under the LCIA Rules (three-member tribunal, English law, London seat) and the RAC Arbitration Rules (sole arbitrator, Russian law, Moscow seat). He has also previously served as a tribunal secretary in proceedings under the SCC Rules.
Maxim maintains a strong interest in academia. Formerly a research assistant to Professor Julian Lew KC, he teaches a postgraduate course on dispute resolution in the energy sector at Queen Mary University of London (School of International Arbitration). He writes and speaks on international arbitration issues, sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Arbitration, and is the winner of the 2024 Young ICCA Essay Competition.
