Personal bio
Zareena Tawheen Choomka is a barrister-at-law of more than 10 years’ standing. She holds a Master’s in Law specialising in International Business Law from the University of London. Tawheen is currently also an ACCA affiliate. She has been the Secretary to the Mauritius Bar Council twice. She has been a member of the Rules Committee of the Supreme Court of Mauritius. Tawheen was honoured by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) for achievement in 2008 and she was awarded the Prestigious Brigid Cotter Prize. She topped the Mauritius Bar Vocational Course of the Council of Legal Education. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Tawheen has also been a part-time Lecturer at the University of Mauritius for Law Professional Vocational Course and at the Open University of Mauritius. She is currently the International Chapter Leader Alumni Mauritius for the University of London and she has participated in the IVLP programme on the theme of “Young African Leaders: Newly Elected Officials” in the United States. Tawheen has also trained many regulatory authorities and private sector organisations in several fields including AML/CFT, cybercrime, etc. She is a practising Defence Counsel.
