An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 16 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation as well as arbitration. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The main areas of practice are; Employment and Labour Relations, Taxation and Revenue, Public Procurement and PPPs, Judicial Review and Administrative law, Constitutional Law.
Employment and Labour Relations: Advised on a wide range of employment and labour related issues and have litigated extensively in the Employment and Labour Relations Court. I handle a broad spectrum of employment and labour related matters, both contentious and non-contentious. Top-ranked by Chambers & Partner in Band 1 Employment in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2024. Recognized by Legal 500 as a leading employment as a ‘Leading Individual’ and ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in 2020 to 2023.
International labour law expertise: Appointed in November 2023 as a member of the ILO’s Committee of Experts on the Implementation of Conventions and Recommendations. The Committee is composed of 20 eminent jurists from different geographic regions, legal systems and cultures. I am the only member of the Committee from the East African region and only woman in Africa. The role of the Committee of Experts is to provide an impartial and technical evaluation of the application of international labour standards in ILO member States.
Commercial and Civil Litigation; been involved and acted in notable and important litigation in the country and is the recipient of International Law Office Client Choice Awards 2018, Litigation. Represented clients in complex and high-value matters at trial and appellate stages before various courts including the Supreme Court.
Tax and Revenue: Advises and represents clients in complex tax and revenue disputes before the Tax Appeals Tribunal and various courts. Represented and assisted in successfully challenging assessments made by Kenya Revenue Authority involving substantial sums of money.
Public Procurement and PPPs; been involved in disputes relating to tenders for some of the largest tenders in the country including various projects in the energy sector, the standard gauge railway, the laptop project and the Lamu Coal power plant project among others. Served as a Board member of the Public Procurement and Administrative Review from Board 2020 to 2023.
I have co-authored two Volumes of Kashindis Employment Employment Digest (August 2020 and November 2023), comprehensive digests of employment and labour relations cases in Kenya.
