Personal bio
I have 32 years working experience in the international construction industry in contract management and legal management, claims, dispute boards, dispute prevention and avoidance, dispute resolution, mediation, and arbitration. I have worked in Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Far East, South America, Africa and Russia and its neighbouring countries firstly as a Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager, Senior Contract Manager & Head of International Contract Management. I advise on the strategic development of contract management activities, contract management/claims related issues on international projects, dispute boards, dispute avoidance, resolution, arbitration, digitialisation and sustainability. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators at Member Level (MCIArb), a member of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF) and a founding member of the International Construction Law Association(ICLA). I am currently a member of two FIDIC Contracts Commitee Task Groups: TG22 - the Development and Publication of an EPCM Form on Contract & TG19 - the Development of Flowcharts for the Process and Procedures within the 2017 FIDIC Suite of Contracts. I sit on the EIC (European International Contractors) Working Group “Contract Conditions” which produces and publishes the ‘EIC Contractor’s Guide’ to the 1999 & 2017 FIDIC Conditions of Contract. I was also a ‘friendly-reviewer’ for the 2017 FIDIC Red, Yellow and Silver books. I have presented papers and spoken at various ICC, FIDIC, DRBF and ISPRAMED conferences and seminars on the importance of contract management, contract management/claims, contractual disputes – their prevention and avoidance, dispute boards, arbitration andAlternative Dispute Resolution procedures. I sat on a task force of construction industry experts for the ICC Commission on Arbitration’s drafting of their 2015 ICC Dispute Board Rules and spoke at the global launch at ICC headquarters in Paris. As an expert witness I have been twice appointed (2014 & 2020) to provide expert reports on contractual and commercial issues on FIDIC contractsfor international ICC arbitrations for road projects in Africa wherein I was cross-examined by opposing counsel andarbitral tribunals.. I co-authored “The NEC4 Contract – Fit for Purpose for International Use?” which was published in the January 2018 edition of The International Construction Law Review and sit on the DRBF committee looking into the feasibility and introduction of a pupil and mentoring scheme. I co-authored “Project Alliances : Do they work for tunneling projects” published in the World Tunnel Congress 2023 conference publication of papers. I was also part of the Consultation Group of construction industry professionals reviewing and commenting on The Association of Consultant Architects and the Association for Consultancy and Engineering’s new PPC Project Alliance Contract 2015.
