Personal bio

Madeline is an independent dispute resolution and arbitration practitioner based in Dar es Salaam. Kimei has over 15 years’ experience focusing on acting for private entities in numerous complex, high-value disputes. She founded iResolve, a fully-fledged ADR firm, in 2014. In 2025, Madeline joined 3 Verulam Building Chambers (UK) as Associate Member. She is currently sitting her second term as the President of Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb).

Ms Kimei also accepts appointments as arbitrator/mediator and has participated as counsel or tribunal secretary in numerous commercial arbitrations under institutional arbitration rules (ICC, TIArb, LCIA, KIAC, CRCICA, UNCITRAL, TIArb and the 1990 EDF) as well as in ad hoc proceedings, and has also represented clients in arbitration- related proceedings before the Tanzanian courts. Her experience covers a broad range of commercial sectors, including construction, mining, sale of goods, insurance, real estate development, banking and financial, construction, telecoms and tax-related disputes.

Ms. Kimei is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK branch) and boasts other memberships such as the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) User’s Council. She sits on the Tanzania National Accreditation Panel for ADR neutrals, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Africa User’s Council; and a member of the LACIAC Court of Arbitration.

In 2024, Ms Kimei was included as a Member of the World Bank’s ICSID Panel of Conciliators and in 2022, the European Commission included her on the list of arbitrators suitable for appointment as Chairperson in arbitrations under trade agreements to which the EU is a party. Kimei also sits on various other panels: Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators, SADC-AFSA, Shanghai International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC), Bali International Arbitration Mediation Centre (BIMAC); Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and more recently she was appointed to the ICANN IRP Panel under the AAA-ICDR.

Her work also involves designing and implementing alternative dispute resolution services for industry bodies and extending ADR/ODR advisory, recruitment, trainingand awareness programmes for ADR practice. Kimei also writes and publishes frequently on arbitration, ADR, ODR and other related fields.

Madeline recently received various recognitions in the field namely the 2023 ADR recognition award from the Judiciary of Tanzania, Mediation Centre and being listed among 100 Tanzanian Changemakers 2023.
