Personal bio
Nkusuwila Nachalwe-Mbao is an accomplished legal practitioner with over 21 years of experience in private practice and an Arbitrator of 5 years. She has consulted in legislative drafting and the energy and environment sectors. In the past, she worked as an environmental law intern at IUCN-The World Conservation Union, under the IUCN-ROSA Project on Strengthening Environmental Law in Southern Africa, aimed to build capacity in environmental law practice and governance.
She is a member of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Panel of Conciliators under the World Bank Group, and an Alternative Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
Nkusuwila holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Zambia and is an Advocate of Zambia's High and Superior Courts. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE), a Diploma in Ministerial, Leadership and Theological Studies from RHEMA Bible Training Center Zambia, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) UK and Zambia, a certificate in Investment and Stock Brokers from the Zambia Insurance Business College Trust (ZIBC). She is an Associate of the Chartered Governance Institute, UK and holds a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) in Energy and Environmental Law with Distinction from the University of Birmingham.
Nkusuwila is passionate about causes advancing the just energy transition and environmental justice, and advocates for Sustainable Development Goal number 7.
She is a prolific writer and has published articles, Now is the Time to Reimagine Policy and Regulations for Zambia’s Energy Sector and the Zambia-DR Congo Cooperation Agreements: An Unsolicited Commentary.
