Personal bio

Michael Mac Guinness is a Chartered Engineer with degrees in Mechanical and Industrial engineering and over 40 years of experience in the management of major projects in oil & gas, pharmaceutical, semi-conductor, industrial, office and retail construction, high concept architectural “iconic” buildings, roads and infrastructure projects. With a unique balance of experience in owner, engineer and construction contractor organisations from feasibility studies through to commissioning, he has a deep understanding of the challenges each party faces in trying to deliver projects.

Extensive experience from direct supervision on site to senior roles in Owner Project Management and Project Controls culminated in becoming the Delay Analysis Expert for a major National Oil Company in the Middle East where he was responsible for assessing and recommending extensions of time in up to 100 disputes and claims of all values for small, medium and mega-projects.
While employed by this National Oil Company, he was a key member of a Dispute Resolution Unit established on a trial basis to expeditiously resolve a backlog of potential claims. The unit was later established on a permanent basis and a Dispute Resolution procedure incorporated into the company’s contracts.

In recent years he has been advising clients in the Middle East on improving Project Controls, and on claims and delay analysis on mega-projects in the oil & gas and infrastructure sectors. He has completed the CIArb International Arbitration course and is a RICS Registered Expert Witness and RICS Certified in Independent Expert Determination.
