Jagmeet Makkar, MSc FICS FIMarE(I) FRINA, FHKIArb, MHKMAG, SM-LMAA, MCIArb, AFIDRRMI Independent Arbitrator Board: WISTA Hong Kong Ambassador: Baltic Expert Witness Association Sea Ambassador: International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network A unique combination of academic prowess and experience in commercial, technical shipping, ship finance, and senior management roles defines Jagmeet's career. After about 40 years of practical and diverse hands-on knowledgebase, Jagmeet served as the IME(I) Chair at the Indian Maritime University and is Adjunct Professor at the GMU, part time lecture at the Hong Kong PolyU and Board Director of Global Maritime & Education Training (GlobalMET). In the corporate world, Jagmeet’s last role was as Co-Head of Chartering and Global Head of Shipping Assets in a fortune 500 company in Hong Kong. Today, Jagmeet is an independent maritime arbitrator and an expert witness with focus on dry shipping. His areas of expertise include charterparties, ship sale & purchase, shipbuilding contracts and ship finance in commercial shipping as well as the ship management, ship repair contract disputes. He is a member of the Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group, supporting member of London of Maritime Arbitrators, panel arbitrator of Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, China Maritime Arbitration Commission, eBRAM and on the list of arbitrators of the HKIAC. Jagmeet is the Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Hong Kong Branch and on the Advisory Board of GIMAC, under the Gujarat Maritime University. Jagmeet served the CIArb EAB Branch as observer and Co-opted Member from 2018 to 2022. Due to his assignment as the IME(I) Chair in India, he could not contribute to the committee in 2022-24 while continued to work with the “P,D and T Sub-Committee” for organising and delivering the introductory courses. In the past Jagmeet and his firm SkillsPlus delivered several sessions of the MATF approved course “Shipping Contracts Management & Introduction to International Arbitration”
