Austen is a Forensic Architect conducting investigations primarily for the insurance and legal professions, including the investigation of defective design and workmanship in relation to buildings.

He is a Chartered Architect, Chartered Construction Manager, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Practising Associate of the Academy of Experts. Austen has over twenty years worth of experience working projects in Europe, the Middle East, East Asia and Australia. He has been responsible for the delivery of projects of various scale and complexity. Austen has a wealth of experience working on all stages of projects.

Austen has been the named expert for ICC, DIFC and DIAC arbitrations as well as civil proceedings in Scotland and England. He has opined on issues related to fire safety defects, glazing, wall and floor tiling failures, collapsed ceilings, cladding and facade issues, condensation and water ingress as well as scope of work, design approvals and variations.

His sector experience includes, airports, rail and metro stations, hotels, residential buildings as well as commercial and civic buildings.
