Personal bio

I come to the role of arbitrator and mediator after a 20-year career as an advocate focused on international arbitration and cross-border litigation. My practice lay at the intersection of the Pacific Rim, the United States, and Latin America, and my clients included multinational energy companies, trading houses, and global leaders in mining, infrastructure, and consumer brands. I represented both owners and contractors in construction disputes arising in the U.S. and abroad. And I represented buyers and sellers in an array of international distribution arrangements concerning products as diverse as heavy equipment, distilled liquors, and nuclear fuels. My representative engagements also included significant trade-secret and patent disputes over semiconductor technology. That breadth of experience allows me--as an arbitrator and mediator--to grasp technical and business issues quickly and to tailor proceedings to the business needs of the specific parties before me. I am bilingual in English and Spanish and welcome engagements in either language. In addition, my knowledge of Portuguese allows me effectively to handle matters where documents, witnesses, or participants require that language.
