HS-G-01: Health & Safety Statement of Intent

 

This page forms part of Ciarb’s Health and Safety Policy and should be read alongside the core policy and other annexes. The following statement sets out the Ciarb’s Board of Trustees and CEO’s commitment to safety.

 

Statement of Intent

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all employees, visitors to 12-14 Bloomsbury Square, and anyone affected by its activities. We believe that achieving high standards for our members requires a strong commitment to safety, which is a shared responsibility among management and staff.

 

Our commitment is to:

  • Implement a health and safety management system to identify and reduce risks, ensuring a safe work environment for everyone.
  • Maintain safe working conditions to minimize accidents and work-related illnesses.
  • Meet the requirements of all applicable legal health and safety legislation, such as but not limited to, the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974: Sections 2(3), 3 and 4, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (England and Wales), the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999: SI 1999/3242.
  • Ensure all employees understand health and safety duties and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Bring this policy to the attention of all employees and consult with them on health and safety matters.
  • Offer adequate training, information and supervision in health and safety.
  • Provide and maintain safe equipment and ensure safe handling of substances.
  • Ensure all contractors understand our safety procedures and follow safe systems of work.
  • Appoint an external risk management consultancy as our Competent Advisor to provide legal, technical and practical health and safety advice and independent monitoring of Ciarb activities.
  • Encourage all Ciarb Branches around the world, within the framework of their local health and safety laws, to use the principals set out in this policy to guide their health and safety practices.
  • Regularly review and update our health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Continuously improve our health and safety management systems.
