Ciarb Scottish Branch and PricewaterhouseCoopers are pleased to offer an interactive cross-examination training session hosted in Edinburgh.

Date: 5 September 2024

Time: 9:30am- 2pm

The event will offer participants the opportunity to take part in a mock quantum expert cross-examination. Three separate arbitration tribunals will be sitting on the day, providing the opportunity for six teams of two lawyers each (three teams of Claimants and three teams of Respondents) to participate in the event.

The mock cross-examination training session will be followed immediately by a de-brief and an insights session from experienced Counsel and Experts to which both successful and unsuccessful applications are invited to attend. This event will take place at Brodies LLP offices in Edinburgh at around 12:45pm.

If you are interested in participating in this event, please complete this form, by 15th July 2024.

We look forward to introducing this event as part of the YMG of the Ciarb Scottish Branch and wish you success in the application process!

Should you have any questions surrounding the above training or application process, then please do not hesitate to contact lisadobbin@hka.com or mairead.fernandez.mccann@pwc.com.

Entry requirements

The organisers will select limited teams of two members each on a random lottery basis. Please note that applications should be made by pre-constituted teams of two lawyers (who may or may not be from the same law firm of Chamber). Unfortunately, individual applications will not be accepted. This event is aimed at qualified lawyers who have less than 7 years post-qualification experience.

Successful applicants for the event will be notified by email in late July 2024. Briefing packs and training / preparation materials will be distributed to the team shortly thereafter. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email but will also receive invitation to the de-brief and insights session on the same date.

Please note that preparation work will be required for this event, including reading-in, discussion (by call or in person) with the PwC expert assigned to each legal team and preparation for the cross-examination itself.

Given that places are limited for this event, applicants are therefore requested to ensure that they are able to attend the event itself on 05 September 2024 and to commit sufficient time for the preparation for the event (approx. 15 to 25 hours over the six week period leading up to the event).

Given the amount of time that many people invest into this training event, if any successful application is subsequently unable to attend the event, they will be expected to seek to find a replacement for their allocated space.

Please note that the organisers are unable to provide any contribution towards travel, accommodation or other participation costs which may be incurred in relation to this event.
