About the course
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is used to resolve a wide range of disputes, providing a valuable alternative to the courts system. In many cases, it can be a faster way to resolve disputes, it can be more flexible, lower cost, confidential and less confrontational. This course develops your understanding of the various methods of dispute resolution.
Because the course is available online and on-demand, you can study wherever and whenever it suits you, and at your own pace.
Successfully pass this course and its accompanying assessment to become eligible for Ciarb Associate membership.

The course is intended for candidates who:

- wish to learn more about ADR and its benefits to users,
- wish to become an Associate member of Ciarb.
Important: Before booking, you are responsible for ensuring that your English language skills are at Professional Working Proficiency level. This level is required when enrolling for any Ciarb course or assessment. Ciarb does not require evidence of this prior to enrolment. It is recommended that you achieve a standard that is, as a minimum, equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 7 or a score of 94-101 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) system. Please note that Ciarb does not require an official IELTS or TOEFL result.

The course fee is £56 inclusive of VAT. The fee includes registration on the course, access to the study materials and the assessment.
Assessment details
The assessment comprises 60 multiple-choice questions selected randomly from a pool.
You will have 3 attempts to the take the test.
Once you have started an attempt you will have 7 days to submit your assessment. If you do not submit your test within the 7 days you will receive a fail for that attempt.
To pass, you must achieve a score of 55% (33 marks).
You will receive your result immediately after submitting your assessment. When you pass, you will have the option to print out a certificate confirming your achievement.

This on-demand course is delivered online through Ciarb’s LearnADR platform (our online learning platform).
You can take this course wherever and whenever it suits you as it’s online and on-demand. Plus, you can learn at your own pace.

Upon successful registration on the course, candidates will receive confirmation they are booked on the course. Joining instructions and course materials that will be available on LearnADR approximately 2 weeks before the course start date, candidates will receive an email with their username and password.

Ciarb reserves the right to cancel or change the date, venue or content of programmes and the names of speakers, lecturers and tutors. Candidates will be provided with adequate notice of any change. If Ciarb has to cancel a course, candidates will be provided with a full refund or the opportunity to transfer their registration to the next course. Should a candidate wish to cancel/defer their registration of a course, notification must be received in writing to education@ciarb.org. Deferral charges apply. On successful completion of this course and its corresponding assessment, candidates:
- will be awarded an Introductory Certificate,
- may progress onto Module 1 of any of the CIArb Pathways – Mediation, Domestic Arbitration, International Arbitration or Construction Adjudication,
- will be eligible to apply for Associate grade membership of CIArb and take advantage of a range of educational and professional benefits.
- Candidates are only eligible to apply for the relevant membership grade for a maximum of 2 years after having successfully completed the course & assessment.
