Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees comprises fifteen Elected and Appointed Trustees, and is supported by numerous Committees.

The Elected Trustees serve for up to two four-year terms, with elections being held on a biennial staggered basis.   Elected Trustees take up office from 1 January in the year following their election. The maximum continuous period a Trustee can serve for is eight years, after which they must wait at least two years before standing for re-election.  The geographic identifiers on the above list signify the region, as established in the Institute’s Bye-Laws, from which the Elected Trustees have been elected.  The Elected Trustees, however, are Trustees for the membership as a whole (i.e., not regionally representational) and are not permitted to hold any other office nor take up any other appointment within the Institute while serving as a Trustee.

The Appointed Trustees also serve for up to two four-year terms, on a staggered basis.  Appointed Trustees are seated by vote of the Board upon nomination by the Board’s Nominations Committee.  Appointed Trustees take up office from 1 January in the year following their appointment.  The maximum continuous period of service is eight years.  The geographic identifiers on the above list simply signify the respective Appointed Trustee’s current domicile.

The Board of Trustees elect a Chair of the Board, Deputy Chair, and Honorary Treasurer on an annual basis.

The Trustees meet in person two times a year, in June and November.  The Trustees also meet up to two additional times per year by videoconference as the business of the Institute requires.
