The North America Branch, in co-sponsorship with the American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law, JAMS Miami, ReedSmith and HoganLovells, held 3 highly successful programs in Miami, FL April 28-30, 2019: An Accelerated Route to Fellowship qualification program, an Accelerated Route to Member training program, and an Introduction to International Arbitration. Leading the Fellowship qualification program were Fellows and Chartered Arbitrators Gary Birnberg, Philip Bruner, Cristina Cárdenas, John Hinchey, David Huebner and Deborah Mastin. Fellow John Rooney led the Member’s program and Fellows Carlos Concepcion and Orlando Cabrera led the introduction program. Jim Reiman served as program director for all 3 programs.
The North America Branch congratulates all participants and program leaders and welcomes more than 30 individuals who are now qualified to become Institute members.

Joint intervention success as Churchill judgment allows the courts to order parties to mediateIn a significant moment for mediation, the highly anticipated Churchill judgment overturns the decision in Halsey, confirming it is not a breach of human rights to integrate mediation into the court process and, where appropriate, to order parties to mediate. CMC, Ciarb and CEDR joined forces to intervene in the case, arguing strongly for this outcome.
