On 11th October CIArb held its first Student Open Day for students looking to find out more about a career in ADR. Held at our Bloomsbury Square headquarters, the all-day event saw well over 100 students attend for information about CIArb and to hear from 4 inspiring speakers who started their own careers through CIArb membership.
In all, students from 6 universities were represented on the day: Queen Mary, SOAS, University of Westminster, LSE, UCL and City University. They heard from 4 speakers at different points across the day: Tom Hawkins, Hetti Jackson-Stops, Tope Balugon and Nurpa Priya. Each speaker recounted their experience of starting out on a career in the sector, giving tips on what students can expect to face and offering advice on how best to get ahead.
In addition to the member speakers, CIArb colleagues from across the organization kindly volunteered their time to help the day run smoothly and answer any questions the students had. They were on hand to sign people up for student membership of CIArb and in all, over 70 new student members were recruited!
CIArb are committed to inspiring the next generation of practitioners and our engagement with students is a key part of that commitment. Research and Academic Affairs Coordinator Mercy McBrayer was responsible for delivering such a successful day, and she now has ambitious plans to expand the initiative further in 2019.
