On 22 March 2019, CIArb Zambia launched its Young Members Group (YMG) initiative during the inaugural “ADR Open Day" at Radisson Blue Hotel in Lusaka. The event was numerously attended by the representatives of Lusaka University, Cavendish University, University of Zambia as well as young professionals from various fields such as banking, legal, engineering, accounting, judiciary and others.
Young Members Group is a Special Interest Group of CIArb which was re-launched a few years ago to support the involvement of young people who are below the age of 40 years in the dispute resolution community. The group is intended to include other professionals of the same age group. The YMG gives young people an opportunity to positively contribute to the development of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) while advancing their professional profile. Joint intervention success as Churchill judgment allows the courts to order parties to mediateIn a significant moment for mediation, the highly anticipated Churchill judgment overturns the decision in Halsey, confirming it is not a breach of human rights to integrate mediation into the court process and, where appropriate, to order parties to mediate.
