CIArb’s Nigeria Branch, Year in Review

01 Dec 2020

CIArb’s Nigeria Branch celebrates the launch of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME).

On 24th August 2020, the CIArb’s Nigeria Branch and the Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish and develop a Joint Expedited ADR–MSME Scheme. The scheme is intended to provide simple, cost effective and timely resolution of disputes within the stipulated timelines. This is to support the Ease of Doing Business initiatives of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the development of effective dispute resolution in the commercial sector.

The signing of the MOU was preceded by a webinar to launch the scheme and it featured Yejide Osunkeye, FCIArb, Juwon Adenuga FCIArb, Dr Adeyemi Agbelusi FCIArb and Tosin Lewis FCIArb as speakers.

The Branch also organised the first-ever virtual Annual Conference from 25 – 27 November 2020 on the Whova App. The Conference commenced on 25th November with the Young Members Group Conference with the theme “The New Frontier: The Position of Young Arbitrators”.

In order to encourage our young members to improve their skills and knowledge in the field of Arbitration, the Branch also established a Mentorship Scheme aimed at improving the development of arbitration skills and transfer of knowledge from established Arbitrators to the Young Arbitrators through a co-ordinated Membership Scheme. The Scheme was launched on 23 October 2020.
