The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and Omnia Strategy are delighted to announce that they are collaborating to deliver international arbitration training to state advocates from across the globe.
CIArb is a professional body that is dedicated to alternative dispute resolution (ADR). It provides ADR training in disciplines such as arbitration, construction adjudication and mediation. Omnia Strategy LLP is an international law firm founded in 2011 by Cherie Blair CBE QC. Omnia specialises in bespoke dispute resolution and dispute prevention around the world, through its unique Law+ approach, combining legal expertise with experience across policy, business and communications
Referring to the partnership, Ania Farren, Partner at Omnia Strategy and trainer on the course said: “Omnia Strategy is privileged to partner with CIArb delivering a bespoke course on international arbitration for State Advocates. This important pro bono initiative continues the firm’s commitment to capacity building and promoting excellence among States Advocates and aims to enhance understanding and technical skills.”
Catherine Dixon, Director General of CIArb, added: ‘CIArb is a global membership and professional body dedicated to effective dispute resolution. I'm delighted that CIArb is working with Omnia Strategy to deliver pro bono training to state advocates in international arbitration to build capacity in this critical area, which will support the rule of law around the world’.
The training will focus on international arbitration and how to use the process effectively to promote sovereign interests, as well as consider the core skills required to successfully manage an arbitration, including case planning, strategy and analysis, evidential and advocacy skills. It will take place from 6 to 8 January 2021 in CIArb’s virtual classroom and will be led by Ania Farren and Ana Paula Montans, international arbitration experts from Omnia Strategy, and Professor Dr Mohamed Abdel Wahab MCIArb, Trustee and Course Director of CIArb’s Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration. The programme will continue both organisations commitment to ADR training and will be delivered to 36 state advocates from 12 jurisdictions.

Joint intervention success as Churchill judgment allows the courts to order parties to mediateIn a significant moment for mediation, the highly anticipated Churchill judgment overturns the decision in Halsey, confirming it is not a breach of human rights to integrate mediation into the court process and, where appropriate, to order parties to mediate.
