PROFILE OF ADEWALE SUNDAY ADESOKAN LLM, FCIArb.(UK), SAN
Wale Adesokan started his education at Ishokun Baptist Day School, Oyo, Oyo State in 1970 and finished in 1976. He proceeded to Oranyan Grammar School, Soro Hill, Oyo for his secondary education and finished primary education in 1981. He went to Federal Government College, Ogbomosho between 1981 and 1983 where he studied for his Higher School Certificate. He attended the University of Lagos, Nigeria’s all-time best University, and graduated Bachelor of Laws ( LLB) as the best student in his class in 1986. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Bar in October 1987. In 1998 he was sworn in as a Notary Public of Nigeria. In 2003 he completed his Master of Laws (LLM) at Nigeria’s Premier University, the University of Ibadan. In 2005 he was registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a Capital Market Solicitor. He is also an Arbitrator, having been admitted as Member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) in June 2011. He became a Fellow of the same Institute in November, 2013. He was sworn in as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria on September 19, 2016.
Wale Adesokan has been in active legal practice since his Call to the Bar. He practiced at the law firm of Messrs. Niyi Oyetunde & Co. during his National Youth Service in Jos, Plateau State from 1987 to 1988. Upon completion of his Service he was given a permanent appointment by the firm. He immediately began to appear at the District Courts, Magistrate Courts, Special Military Tribunals, High Courts (Federal and State) and the Court of Appeal where he conducted both criminal and civil cases. As young as he then was at the Bar, the civil cases that he handled at that time included recovery of debts, recovery of possession, trespass to land, persons and goods, and wrongful dismissal. The criminal cases that he handled included criminal breaches of trust and causing deaths by dangerous driving.
He resigned from Niyi Oyetunde & Co. in December 1989 to join the Chambers of The Late Chief G. O. K. Ajayi, SAN in January 1990. He worked there till January 1996. At G. O. K. Ajayi & Co. he was Head of Chambers from September 1991 till his resignation in January 1996. He added regular appearances at the Supreme Court and the Civil Disturbances, Election and Arbitration Tribunals to the category of Courts before which he had been appearing in Jos. The subject matter of cases that he handled also expanded to cover corporate governance, banking, oil and gas, copyright, patent, administration of estates, Chieftaincy, matrimonial causes and trade mark matters. He was also exposed to documentation of loan syndication agreements, preparation and perfection of leases, tenancy agreements and conveyances. He also conducted several cases before various Failed Banks and Military Tribunals.
He registered his law firm and has been Principal in the Chambers since February 1996. He is a practicing domestic and international solicitor, advocate, arbitrator, notary public and trade mark agent and has acted as counsel in various proceedings from the lowest to the highest court in Nigeria. He has been Counsel in several arbitration proceedings and has been Arbitrator in some. He represented the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association on the Settlement Week Committee of the Lagos MultiDoor CourtHouse (LMDC) Governing Council from July 2011 to July 2017. He is a Member of the Governing Board of Christower International Schools, Member, Board of Advisers, God-Will-Do-It Ministries, Chairman, Pristine Guest House Limited, Director, Ensemble Multibiz Limited, Director, Travelright Limited and a host of other companies.
He has travelled widely. He has attended many conferences, seminars and workshops within and outside the shores of the country. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK), the National Geographic Society of the United States of America and the International Bar Association. He is a husband of one wife, being happily married to Mrs. Omonike Adesokan (nee Akinsiku) and they are blessed with children.
