Iain McSporran QC is from Campbeltown, graduated in Law from Glasgow University in 1986 and thereafter spent his entire career in criminal law, whether as Prosecutor or defence. He has just completed thirteen years as an Advocate Depute prosecuting in the High Court, where he conducted some high profile prosecutions including that of Aaron Campbell for the murder of Alesha Macphail on Bute, and the case of Cairney and Jones, for the murder of Margaret Fleming. He took silk in 2016, and is a keen Burns enthusiast, President of Balerno Burns Club, and an established after-dinner speaker.
