Dr. Lalit Bhasin is a distinguished lawyer with over five decades of law practice. He is the Managing Partner of Bhasin & Co. He started his law practice in 1962 and has developed Bhasin & Co. as one of the leading law firms in north India.
He is Chairman of CIArb India Branch, President of the Society of Indian Law Firms and the Bar Association of India. He is also president of the Indian Law Foundation. He is an honorary life member of the International Bar Association and a member of the ICC Arbitration India Core Group. He is Chairman of PHD Chamber of Commerce Committee on Americas. He is also Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Task Force on Legal Services. He is regional president of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), besides being chair of staff committee and council member of the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC).
He was awarded a Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa by Jaipur University in 2013, a Plaque of Honour for outstanding contribution to the rule of law in 2002 by the Prime Minister of India, and the National Law Day Award in 2007 by the President of India.
His areas of specialisation include aviation, employment and labour, entertainment and media, banking and finance, consumer protection and dispute resolution.
Tejas Karia is a Partner and Head of the Arbitration practice at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Tejas is a Director of CIArb India branch. He is dual qualified to practice in India and England & Wales. He has read LLM from London School of Economics with specialisation in International Commercial Arbitration. He has wide experience in handling International and Domestic Commercial Arbitrations across sectors. He has represented multinational and Indian corporations in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations involving major arbitration institutions. He has been part of the committee of Law Commission of India for recommending amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and also of High-powered Committee for Institutionalization of Arbitration in India.
He regularly sits as an Arbitrator. He has been ranked as “Global Leader” by Who’s Who Legal and Global Arbitration Review. He has also been recognised as “Leading Lawyer in Dispute Resolution” by Asialaw Leading Lawyers, mentioned in Legal 500, ranked by Chambers & Partners for Arbitration.
He is a member of the Governing Council of Indian Law Society, SIAC Court of Arbitration, ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and Vice-Chairman of Society of Construction Law – India.
He has co-authored a number of publications on Arbitration and spoken at various conferences and seminars on arbitration in India and abroad.
Catherine joined CIArb in May 2020 having just completed a world-record breaking circumnavigation of the world on a tandem. Prior to her expedition Catherine spent time in chief executive roles at the Law Society of England and Wales, Askham Bryan College and NHS Resolution. Catherine has also held senior leadership roles at the NSPCC and BUPA. Catherine has served as a trustee and non-executive director on a number of boards, including the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution and she is currently a trustee of Stonewall.
Catherine is a non-practicing solicitor and accredited mediator and has a MBA.
Nusrat Hassan has over 25 years post qualification experience and is co-managing Partner of Link Legal India Law Services. He is a Chevening Scholar and is dual qualified to practice in India and England & Wales. He is Secretary of CIArb India branch and Senior Vice Chair – Agricultural Law Section of the International Bar Association (IBA). In 1997, he co-founded D.H. Madhvendra Singh is a senior officer of Indian Navy, a Chartered Engineer and an FCIArb. He is member of LMAA and is an Arbitrator with reputed International Arbitral institutions. A prolific writer, faculty and go to expert on matters of Technology and Maritime Arbitration.
He is on the advisory board of many Indian & International ADR institutes. He has held commanding roles in the Navy and heads the Power Systems Specialist Group. He has conducted many Arbitrations and advises the government on matters of ADR. He has trained the Legal Officers & Counsel from Indian Ocean RIM Association (IORA) Countries at South Africa and has been quoted by reputed International Publications.
He has spoken internationally on varied aspects of International Commercial Arbitration and specialises in Maritime, Construction and Engineering Arbitrations.
