This online event, organised by CIArb's Young Members Group (UAE), will last for one hour: 12.00pm UAE time; 10.00am Central European Time; 9.00am British Summer Time.
Toby Landau QC FCIArb, an eminent barrister who has acted as lead counsel in over 350 international arbitrations and has sat as an arbitrator in over a hundred international arbitrations (including commercial and investor-state disputes), will present his top tips for effective oral advocacy.
This lecture will comprise a critique of standard approaches to oral advocacy, from an insider’s perspective: What are the common mistakes? What are the most effective techniques? What really goes on in the deliberation room when counsel’s submissions are evaluated? Oral advocacy before national courts and international tribunals will be compared, providing a framework to maximise the impact of submissions.
Toby brings a wealth of experience in what promises to be an engaging and informative session for both junior and experienced practitioners.
Arun Visweswaran ACIArb will moderate the session, present the introductory and closing remarks.
