The main purpose of the Professional Conduct Committee (“PCC”) is to investigate all complaints of whatever nature against any member of CIArb. This may include investigating any issue, concern or other matter arising out of or in any way connected to the complaint or information or the subject matter of the complaint.
The PCC consists of up to nine Fellows of CIArb and no more than five Lay-Members. At least two of CIArb Members must be lawyers and at least one shall hold or have held judicial office. We welcome applications from Fellows of CIArb, regardless of professional background.
Membership of the PCC offers you the satisfaction of making a contribution to safeguarding the reputation of CIArb.

There are currently up to four vacancies for CIArb Members of the PCC, one of which must have held or holds judicial office.
The members of the PCC support the Chair in discharging the responsibilities of the PCC. The PCC reports on its activities through a written report to each meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Applications from those who are from outside of the United Kingdom are most welcome. CIArb welcomes applications from all of its Fellows and desires a PCC that reflects the diversity of the societies that it serves.
The PCC usually meets on a quarterly basis but may meet more or less frequently depending on workload. Meetings usually last for up to ½ a day and will take place when possible at CIArb offices in London. In the meantime meetings will be conducted online.
In addition, when a complaint is received and the information gathering process is complete, the complaint is allocated to one CIArb Member and one Lay Member who will prepare a report into the complaint and present that report at the next meeting of the PCC. You must show willingness to be flexible in managing other commitments in order to meet the timescale for producing such reports.
CIArb Members are appointed for terms of three years and may be re-appointed for additional terms on the recommendation of the PCC Chair.
The roles are non-remunerated but expenses incurred in the proper performance of members’ duties will be reimbursed in accordance with CIArb’s Expenses Policy.
Candidates must be Fellows of CIArb to apply but need not meet all of the person specification criteria. However, there is an expectation that all applicants will be able to demonstrate suitable experience in complaints investigation and regulatory matters.
