On 9 June 2020, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators North West Branch successfully held its first-ever online educational event.
The Mediation Surgery was presented as a joint event between the North West branch of CIArb and the Association of Northern Mediators.
Zoom was used to present the event, which was extremely well attended. The virtual surgery was chaired by Peter Vinden FCIArb and Mark Mattison FCIArb, who are both highly experienced practitioners. This was a popular event designed for mediators and those thinking of training as mediators.
The Mediation Surgery presented the attendees with interesting and challenging scenarios for comment and discussion.
The success of this event paves the way for the North West branch to present more content to its members virtually.

Significant progress on Advisory Centre for International Investment Law at UNCITRALIn 2017, UNCITRAL Working Group III (WGIII) was launched and was tasked with working on procedural reform of the investor state dispute settlement (ISDS) system. From 1-5 April 2024, Ciarb participated in the 48th session of WGIII in its capacity as an observer delegate.
