Dr Eugen Salpius FCIArb 12 April 1946 - 24 October 2018
Dr Salpius was a destiguished member of the Austrian Bar and truly multi-cultural. He was educated in Austria, the USA, Russia and the Netherlands. In addition, he spoke several languages including German, English, Russian, Polish and Italian. He served as in house counsel at IBM and then moved to practising law in Salzburg, Austria developing an arbitration practise from which he became an emminent international arbitrator. His involvement with CIArb was extensive and he served as the Chair of the European Branch and then as President (2005). Dr Salpius was a mentor to many aspiring arbitrators and gave freely of his time to help educate others in arbitral practise. He is left behind by his wife Waltraud and two daughters.

Significant progress on Advisory Centre for International Investment Law at UNCITRALIn 2017, UNCITRAL Working Group III (WGIII) was launched and was tasked with working on procedural reform of the investor state dispute settlement (ISDS) system. From 1-5 April 2024, Ciarb participated in the 48th session of WGIII in its capacity as an observer delegate.
