This CIArb flagship online event is aimed at mediators or those who are interested in resolving disputes.
The last few years have witnessed many complex economic, social and other factors that are likely to lead to an increase in disputes. Courts will face an excess of cases and, as such, individuals and businesses will look to alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Technology provides a way of learning about resolving disputes as well as different ADR techniques, and this online event explores mediation at the crossroads of this.
What opportunities does technology provide for mediation? What new skills will mediators require? What does a multidisciplinarity approach to mediation give practitioners? This online meeting with internationally renowned mediator, Jane Gunn FCIArb, will explore these and other key questions, as well as other relevant CIArb resources such as CIArb’s new virtual mediation course and Mediation Symposium later on this year.

Event Speakers
Catherine Dixon joins the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) as its new Director General in May 2020 - having just completed a world-record breaking circumnavigation of the world on a tandem (cycling). Prior to her expedition Catherine spent time in chief executive roles at the Law Society of England and Wales, Askham Bryan College and NHS Resolution. Catherine has also held senior leadership roles at the NSPCC and BUPA.
Catherine has served as a trustee and non-executive director on a number of boards, including the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution and she is currently a trustee of Stonewall. Catherine is a non-practicing solicitor and an accredited mediator.

She specializes in collaboration, cross-cultural communication and transforming business relationships and has helped open the eyes, hearts and minds of numerous companies to transform and secure the future of their organisation and the commitment and collaboration of their people.
As a trained mediator and facilitator she brings a diverse mix of skills, experience and insight that enable her to get people and groups with different priorities, incentives and ways of doing things, to work together successfully. She has a powerful message supported by practical tools and techniques that applies to organizations of all sizes across all sectors.
Jane is Chair of the Board of Management of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and is a former director and board member of the Civil Mediation Council of England and Wales (CMC). She is a past president of the Professional Speaking Association of the UK and Ireland (PSA UKI). She is also a member of the Advisory Committee to QUADRA in Italy.
She has been invited to speak at the United Nations, the White House, the European Commission and the International Energy Agency and has fulfilled a number of other international speaking engagements. She has worked with organisations large and small including Cable & Wireless, The NHS, BAA, Bacardi-Martini, McLaren Racing, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and many more.
She is also the author of two popular books on conflict management “How to Beat Bedlam in the Boardroom and Boredom in the Bedroom” and “The Authority Guide to Conflict Resolution”.
Dr Paresh Kathrani is the Director of Education and Training at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Before joining CIArb, he was a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Westminster where his research interests included artificial intelligence, robotics, ethics and the law, as well as LawTech application, tech-growth and collaboration. Paresh has written on new forms of education, law and technology and has also spoken at many events on the convergence of these.
